In a 43-3 vote Thursday, City Council passed a plan to provide government identification cards to all New York City residents, including immigrants regardless of their immigration status.
This plan will allow certain residents, who would otherwise not be able to obtain an ID card, to have one. Mayor Bill de Blasio is expected to sign the legislature which will be effective by the end of the year
This will the the United States' largest municipal ID program and is aimed to give all residents the feeling that they are part of the city and create more pride for New York City.
